Child Centered Play Therapy
Why Play?
Play is the main and natural way that kids interact with the world around them and imperative to their development. Play is often spontaneous, creative, collaborative, and fun. During play children learn social skills, limitations, communication, and differences between fantasy and reality. There is no better way for kids to learn these life skills!
Why Play Therapy?
Due to limitations in development and vocabulary, children are not able to work through issues and problems in the same way as adults. They may have big emotions or conflicts that they are not able to express. The therapeutic playroom offers them a path of expression and projection. The kids are able to project problems, emotions and conflicts onto the toys and the therapist as their system works out solutions.
Who Benefits from Play Therapy?
Play therapy can help with a variety of issues and behaviors. Generally play therapy is recommended for children ages 3-10, although there can be some variance depending on individual development.
